Carpet Stretching

Carpet Stretching

Do you have any buckling, waves or looseness in your carpet? This can be fixed professionally by Gilbert Carpet Repair. Your carpet should be tight like a drum and if it is loose it will wear out much faster. The tightness in the carpet backing helps to keep the piles standing up so your walking on the top of the fibers instead of the sides. There are quite a few thing that can make your carpets loosen up and here are a few of the major ones.

1. The carpet was not stretched properly at the time of installation.

Lots of carpet installers do not use a power stretcher when installing carpet and just use a knee kicker. Yes, this will get the carpet flat and it will look good when they complete the job but will not last. Carpet by itself will loosen up a bit over time and it if doesn’t have a proper tension on it when it is installed buckles and wrinkles will start to appear in a year or two. Carpet must be stretched properly in order to bet the best life out of it.

2. Carpet backing defect.

Sometimes the backing just keeps on loosening up all on it’s own, I see this quite a bit in the low profile pattern carpets. The low profile carpet magnify the buckles and wrinkles since the piles are much shorter and can hide less.

3. Heat

Ever leave your metro Phoenix house for vacation and turn the AC off to save some money? Not a good idea, homes and get up to 115 degrees inside causing lots of damage as materials expand with the heat. Carpet backing is made from plastic and is called Actionback carpet backing, back in the day Jute was used and did not loosen up like the Actionback carpet. This backing will really loosen up like crazy if the house gets too warm and I would suggest that you set your AC not higher than 85 degrees while you are away.

4. Moisture

Carpet backing does not like to get wet so if you have a flood or the carpet cleaners get it too wet it will not be good for your carpet backing. You will notice that the looseness and wrinkles in your carpet are much worse on high humidity days or after having them cleaned.
After things dry out a bit the wrinkles will be less pronounced of completely disappear.

Those are the main issues that can make a carpet buckle and get wrinkles. To get this repaired properly find a company that specializes in carpet repairs and someone who is a carpet installer, not a handy man or carpet cleaner. I would have to say that more that half of the carpet repair companies out there are carpet cleaners and carpet repairs are more of a installation issue that one of cleaning.
